Sustainable Fashion #2
Myth #1: It's expensive.
The TRUTH: While some sustainable fashion brands are on the pricier end, there are plenty of ways shopping sustainably is actually cheaper than supporting fast fashion! On the one hand, think about the poor quality of fast fashion. Sure that shirt was "a steal" at $5, but it'll probably fall apart after 3-4 wears; thus, it's costing you a little over a dollar per wear. On the contrary, if you invest in a more quality garment, it'll cost you much less per wear because it'll last much longer than the cheap (quality) fast fashion garment.
Myth #2: It's hard to do.
The TRUTH: If I'm being honest, I have definitely struggled with figuring out what's considered truly sustainable vs what's not. However, I've found that shopping secondhand strips away this confusion: When thrifting, it's guaranteed that your money is going to support a charity or a local business, instead of a fast-fashion company. Plus, not only are you keeping something out of the landfill, no one was exploited in order to get that fashion to you. Also, as I've begun to invest in more quality pieces, I've had less of a need to buy more stuff; thus, shopping sustainable can be as simple as just shopping less.
Myth #3: It's not stylish.
The TRUTH: Sustainable style doesn't equate to boring style! In fact, it's quite the opposite. Especially in regards to thrifting, the options are endless and chances are, you'll likely find pieces that fall in the "one of a kind cool" category. Plus, deviating from fast fashion has helped me further cultivate a style that best fits me- not just what's "trending."
All in all, I hope we can move towards being more conscious consumers together<3
XOXO,
