Being stuck inside just means more time for DIYs:)
Hello! With the current COVID-19 situation, all of my activities have been canceled and my school is mandating two weeks of online learning; although the social distancing kinda sucks at times, it's definitely necessary and will help the situation improve quicker. The Washington Post is doing a really great job with informative and accurate updates; plus these articles are all accessible FOR FREE here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/coronavirus/
Meanwhile, there is a bright side to the situation- the extra time inside just means more time to unleash your creativity! here are my top 8 things to do during this time (apart from blogging of course):
1. SEW. Stay tuned to my IG (@designsby.grace) to see my finished products. In the meantime, you can upcycle old clothes or take scrap fabric to make scrunchies, headbands, pencil pouches...the options seem endless!
2. CLEAN. Speaking of old clothes, now is the perfect time to do the closet cleanout you never seem to have the time for. Not only will you have a better idea of what clothes you have- so you don't buy unnecessary items- but also you can donate (or sell) the clothes that no longer fit your body nor your style.
3. BAKE. As any of my friends and family can testify, I LOVE baking! My favorites are brownies and cake mix cookies- easy to make and delicious to eat. If you're looking to try something new, I'd have to recommend these amazingly fluffy Japenese Souffle Pancakes or these to-die-for macarons.
4. READ. And no I don't mean that you have to read an assigned book; read about something you're interested in or about someone you're inspired by. Personally, I love reading the memoirs and biographies of accomplished figures in our society- it's always inspiring to learn about their struggles and the way they handled them.
My personal picks: "When Breath Becomes Air" by Paul Kalanithi, "Winning Balance" by Shawn Johnson, and "Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina" by Misty Copeland
My want-to-read list: "Becoming" by Michelle Obama, "#GIRLBOSS" by Sophia Amoruso, and "Thrive" by Arianna Huffington
5. FAMILY TIME. It's easy for us to get super busy on the daily grind so take advantage of this time to laugh and talk with your love ones!
6. JOURNAL. Reflect on the current situation- as crazy as it may feel, we're living in historic time peeps! Plus, writing always helps me process my emotions so jot down whatever you're feeling. If you're more into the visuals, try bullet journaling or making a commonplace book.
7. SELF-CARE. This one is a biggie! As hard as it is to slow down from the daily grind and take some time for yourself, I'm going to share one of the best pieces of advice I've ever received to combat this attitude: "You can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first." So put on that face mask, light those candles and take a deep breath!
8. NETFLIX. Now is the time to try a new show or rewatch a childhood favorite! At the top of my list are The Politician, Cheer and Victorious. (Also the demands of school stopped me from finishing the most recent season of Project Runway so I am excited to watch the finale! I watch Project Runway on the Bravo app)
And that's a wrap! I hope you all stay safe and healthy!
XOXO,
grace
